For the UNESCO poster competition 'LANGUAGES MATTER!' we decided to create a visual collection of different characters around the globe. The design process included a research of the special characters that local languages have around the globe. Each character is placed in the country that the language is spoken. In order to make a selection that would show the richness of the world and stressing the problem that most of the languajes are almost extinct. By showcasing this diversity and almost extinct variations of mother languages, the poster promotes the diversity of sounds and ways of writing around the globe. We believe that the designer should be a cultural agent that arises the curiosity in the people with the purpose of enhancing the cultural understanding and social cohesion. The proposal for the poster of this year will show that there are not only a few alphabets in the world but a wide arrange, and that languages are not only spoken but also expressed in many other ways like writing them, drawing them or even whistling them. Hopefully some people would find that there is a strange character coming out from their country and this would make them curious to discover which language is it and who is using it nowadays. Language matter to us and we are glad to participate in a campaign to promote the cultural values.
