Language is a vital exponent of any distinct anthropology that composes the world. The model of the contemporary globalized world tends to weaken or demolish the parallel anthropological vitalities and drive towards a single treaty of a mono-culture. This is something that happens since the era of grand colonialism when the indigenous populace was superseded so that the western languages, religions and lifestyles would be established.
Today is an important project to ‘listen to the voices’ of the languages that tend to disappear. The languages of indigenous, local idiotism, ancient languages.
The poster carries the message of the preservation of linguistic diversity on two levels: an anthropological level and in a historical level. The first consists of the coexistence of languages especially in a treaty of contemporaneousness. From the indigenous languages as they are preserved in all continents as far as the vocal formations of 21st century metropolises, they all form a unity and a link that runs parallel to the anthropologies of the contemporary world.
The second level consists to history as an asynchronous thread that connects the languages in existence, in progress and evolution over time. The linguistic morphemes that are prevalent today derive from the foundations of ancient languages. The dynamic of cultural exchanges and coexistence has offered to these morphemes the connections for borrowings from parallel cultures so that the language itself is a field study on the history and interaction of cultures.
In the proposition for the official poster of International Mother Language Day there is a draft of an assemblage of house and building typologies as references to different localities and cultures : Mongolia, Bolivia, Greece, Morocco, China, Cambodia, Yemen, New York, Venice, Netherlands, Ghana. The ‘architecture’ of the proposition draft is not technically complete or aesthetically tidy. It is an architecture that reflects local voices against a devastating unanimity. The depicted assemblage is a dynamic formation that attains harmony through diversity.
The entry contains two variations: the black and white single poster and the colourful one. The second contains a column with colourful stripes on the left of the draft. The required text elements (date and slogan) are situated on this column. The use of colour points out the message of linguistic and cultural diversity. From the other hand, the simple black and white version focalizes to the power of the design so as to address the above message.
