Handmade Helmet Covers

For bicycles to become a more frequently used means of transportation, cyclists need to feel safe, comfortable and stylish. The hand-made knitted helmet cover encourages these human needs, while also spreading joy.

On today’s congested streets, helmets save lives. Even in bike-dominated cities such as Copenhagen and Amsterdam (where riders balk at the idea of wearing a helmet), most serious injuries are to the unprotected head.

Knitted helmet covers can be worn in all climates and all year. Helmet covers can be as simple as a loosely-knit “skin” that slides over any helmet. Yet, knitted helmet covers can also help keep cyclists riding in cold weather. A stylish, comfortable and warm helmet cover will keep riders wearing them helmets in winter, instead of opting for a warm hat.

Cyclists have no other safe, comfortable and sustainable winter option. Stuffing a hat under their headshell forces it off-centre reducing its comfort and safety. Nylon and polyurethane covers are derived from fossil fuels and contain a toxic soup of chemicals including surfactants, which pollute natural environments. Plastic helmet covers are not biodegradable, and far from urban chic.

To add to overall wellbeing, cyclists need more than just utility to induce them onto the streets. They need to wheel in style. Our helmet covers allow the rider to express their sense of fashion and expose their individuality.
