BLOSSOMING

The Lotus Flower is the symbol of purity, faithfulness and spiritual awakening. The flower lifts itself from the dirt and mud of its surrounding.

Though the flower has its root in the mud, it grows upward in the direction of light, which represents the aspiration to rise above and move toward the light. In other words, the flower stands for the journey from the
darkness, represented by the muddy pond, to the light of knowledge or wisdom; and our innate ability as human beings to emerge and overcome all obstacles and create hope for self and others.

I called this check Blossoming because of the link between Bangladesh’s National Emblem, the Shapla (the water lily surrounded by 2 sheathes
of rice), and the meaning of the Lotus Flower. The parallels between his project, and the meaning of the Lotus Flower as symbol, seemed a perfect platform for the design: the goal to bring hope to the artisans, to
the people, to the nation by creating an economic empowerment program; using the light of knowledge, the native knowledge of textiles and weaving,
to bring about a new blossoming.

The light in the center of this check, emerging from the darker outer shades, represents the blossoming; like the Lotus Flower from the muddiness of the pond, the rebirth of Bangladesh as a self-sufficient economy from out of its own roots, in textiles and artistry.

Like the Lotus Flower we can bloom right where we are.
Making a difference and emerging wherever we are …this place, this time, under these
circumstances.

That is Hope. And its fulfillment.
