GOING WITH THE GRAIN: design an object using sustainable wood

Competition Details

by Petra Stanev

Begin teaching your children about responsible design early with ZaK. This cheerfully zoomorphic highchair has a height adjustable seat and foot rest for a growing child and will tuck under the table when not in use to leave more play space for all. It assembles and disassembles easily for simpler and more efficient transportation and long-term storage, facilitating hand-me-downs. Grown-up-supplied scarf and belt attach through the provided holes to let the caregiver fine tune child restraint and comfort as baby grows into an ever more coordinated and sensible person. A trio of ZaKs and a triplet of super-sized spiny KroK pull toys can be made of one sheet of sustainably grown and healthily produced plywood with almost no scraps. ZaK is responsible cradle to cradle. Produced from sustainable materials with minimal waste, designed for extended use by each child and use by numerous children of a material that can finally be recycled or mulched for the back yard, ZaK will also give aesthetic pleasure: environmental responsibility without compromises for the next generation and beyond.
