Inspired by the efforts of FSC to preserve forests and natural environments around the globe, the EDGE TABLE is a celebration of the outdoors, expressed through the simple assemblage of minimal parts into a sturdy, multi-use table. As an ICON of the tradition of outdoor communal gatherings, whether it be camping, picnicking, or a birthday party, the PICNIC table is an immediately recognized symbol of man’s interaction with the NATURAL world.

The design takes its cues from the traditional picnic table design, but is an original furnishing with a modern sensibility. The long ROUGH edges of the table mimic that of an end piece of unmilled wood, and reminds the user of the origins of the material. By recalling the past and the process of lumber milling and production, the edge celebrates the ORGANIC quality of wood, while also drawing attention to the multiple LAYERS of the ply that reveals the material’s construction.

The table demands a closer look at the refined detailing and elegance of the plywood and showcases its STRENGTH and durability. Multiple joint types properly support and connect the various pieces, all of which are sized to maximize the use of the single sheet of plywood. Very MINIMAL WASTE is left over from the production of the edge table. Assembly is quick and simple and requires only a few steps.

As a whole the design’s intention is to remind the user of the beauty and SUSTAINABILITY of wood as a renewable resource that must be protected and valued for its use as a building material. By acting as a GATHERING point for people to dine, talk, work and PLAY, the edge table is a humble, yet elegant, multi-functional addition to any dining room, office or campsite. So, pull up a chair and enjoy the great outdoors!
