Chair 4 Value

Along with following the brief, main criteria for the chair have been to reduce waste of material as much as possible. Beside of this the good old ‘keep it simple’ mantra is followed, in order to enhance assembly, durability etc. So overall parameters that have influenced the design are:

Use 8ft by 4ft sheet of plywood.
Do not use any other material for assembly.
Reduce parts, to make assembling/ dissembling easier.
Make parts sturdy for continuous assembling/ dissembling.
Reduce waste of material.
Highlight structure of material, by creating an interesting design.
Good ergonomic design so the chair is comfortable to sit in.

The idea is to create three chairs of each sheet of plywood. Each chair consists of 4 parts; rest, seat, and 2 feet. The only waste of plywood will be very limited, as the only parts of the sheet that are not used are the few small assembly holes, and from cutting / filleting the parts.

Assembly of the chair occurs in 3 steps. 1) Put the shortest sides of the feet together, having the longest to face the ground. 2) Attaching the rest to the feet, fixating the structure. 3) Putting the sharp angle of the seat through the rest, and the chair is ready to use!

The chair is intended as a lounge chair, to relax in. Sip a cup of coffee, read a book, watch TV, get a bit of sun. It can be used both inside and outside.
