Kobe G8 Environment Ministers Meeting "Furoshiki"

Competition Details

Rising Sun

by Michael Bevivino

This furoshiki design borrows its strongest graphic element from the host country’s flag. The ‘Rising Sun’ represents a new beginning, hope and a look toward the horizon. Rendered in green, the sun ties itself to the earth and the environment.

The lines radiating from the center of the furoshiki seek to capture the architectural lines found in two of the host cities most iconic structures, Port Tower and the Kobe Maritime building. They create a sense of movement and power.

The light green circles represent the cyclical process of recycling and the scattered leafs represent growth and change.

Finally, the design is symmetrical so when the furoshiki is tied as a bag the same themes can be read.
